Report

The Falcon Flyer is an off road race starting in Ravenscar on the North Yorkshire coast. The route heads out onto the North Yorks Moors, reaching a high point at Burn Howe before going through a deep gully at Jugger Howe on the way back to the coast at Robin Hood's Bay. A recent landslide had closed the cliff top route back to Ravenscar (and the tide was in, ruling out the beach route too), so the race followed the old railway line back. This meant a long drag of four miles rather than the much shorter but much more undulating cliff route. At a guess, the advertised 23 miles was short. (There was also a 15 mile shorter option).

The race was organised by the Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team. Unlike most LDWA events, there is no detailed route description, just 9 checkpoints to visit on the way round. A similar event in the area is the Smuggler's Trod, 26 miles, organised by the Yorkshire LDWA over August Bank Holiday.
