Report

This fell race is part of the popular series organised by woodentops.org.uk set in the quarries of penistone country park near Haworth, sure the Brontes would have approved. It is isn't difficult to see where the race gets it name from with two river crossings, and enough mud for tuddenham to finally cast off his ill earned reputation for a love of concrete and gentle trail! A large field of 300 and lots of support made for a memorable and competitive event. The free Soreen malt loaf went down well at the end. The truly awesome Ian Holmes won the event for the fifteenth year in a row aged 44 in a time of 43.17, beating off national standard opposition at the sharp end, suffice to say I never saw them after the first turn up the hill!
