Race conditions
Appalling. Cold weather with heavy rain, turning to hail and strong winds. The hail stopped but the winds increased to gale force, leading to competitors almost running on the spot instead of going forward.
Report
An undulating, 2-lap course which isn't particularly scenic, but isn't bad. The prevailing winds along the coastal section of road are a head wind, often strong, so this isn't generally a fast course. The tough conditions this year made it less fun than it should have been and vets of many Duchies agreed that these were about the worst conditions possible.
There's also a 20-mile race which is generally used as a London warm-up.
Report by Ian Sharman.
