Report

This is definitely a contender in the "scenic" category of half-marathons. The rain lifted just before the 9.00am start but left conditions treacherous underfoot for the 460 participants. Variety was the keynote: after 3km there is a long climb to the top of one of the spectacular chalk Downs followed by a steep descent into the historic village of Alfriston, a long and slippery stage along the Cuckmere river followed by another whopper of a climb up a sea cliff at 18km. Forget PBs; there are just too many gates and styles, bottlenecks and a couple of 1 in 5 gradients. Organisation was cheerful, crowd support good and the start is just a few yards from the station.
