This race was the 9th in the BC Athletics (similar to UK Athletics but for the province of British Columbia, Canada) Timex Road Running series that takes place each year. The race was held along the waterfront in Whiterock, a small suburb about 40km south of Vancouver on the US border.

The course started with a flat, winding first 6k and then rolled along and went up for for 3k before descending quickly back to sea level for the finish. The course was very well marshalled with a couple of water stations and fruit, cookies, juice and free gatorade at the finish. There were prizes (okay medals) for the top three in all 5-year age band categories and loads of spot prizes, so from a field of a few hundred it seemed like most people walked away with something.
