Race conditions
Heavy, blustery rain. Quite unpleasant.
Report
Significant parts of this race are off-road: a 800m loop at the start round the outside of some rugby pitches, and a farm track nearly 1km long, which you have to run twice. So given the heavy rain (following several days of wet weather) it is not surprising that there was plenty of mud around!
The course is mostly a loop, repeated twice, on undulating country roads and lanes, including said farm track. Part is pleasant scenery on the fringe of St Leonard\'s Forest in the Sussex Weald, and part is through the boring outer suburbs of Horsham.
The rain was so heavy that at times I couldn\'t read my stopwatch because of the water obscuring my glasses.
A very well-organised race, with plenty of marshals, particularly at points where there is conflict with traffic. They deserve a lot of thanks for turning out in such foul conditions.
Report by Neil Hall.
