Report
I entered this race on Oct 1. It is in a small, beautiful mountain town of Leavenworth, Washington, USA, which has modeled itself on a Tirolian village. This is the first marathon/half marathon they have held, and it is in conjunction with a very large regional Oktoberfest celebration.
The race has a hill smack in the middle of it that goes up for 3 miles, increasing in incline, so it is not one for PBs, but it is the most scenic race I have ever entered. There were only 200 entrants for the 1/2 marathon, but this is sure to increase in future years, as the scenery is breathtaking and the course not really that difficult (3 miles of downhill also, and only the top part was steep enough to mash the quads). And the beer and bratwurst afterward were great! The weather was fabulous (clear and 13C at the start) and it was a well organised out and back route (the marathoners did two laps). This place is the in the foothills of the North Cascade mountain range, one of the most majestic ranges in the USA. Because it is in the foothills, the elevation is not a factor; because it is on the eastern slope of these western mountains, it is very sunny (300 days of sun a year).
The website is Leavenworthmarathon.com. Local organisers. Qualifier for Boston Marathon.
