Thursday Track Sessions at Battersea

The Thursday evening track sessions take place at the Battersea Park track (Millennium Arena). The coached sessions are organised by our Battersea Park coaching team.

Battersea Park Track

A typical track session includes: extensive warm up routine, technical drills for speed, agility and quickness (SAQ), intervals, repetitions, time trails, performance tests and stretching exercises.

Depending on the time of the year we include additional fitness components to prepare our athletes for the cross country, track & field or road season.

There are three groups training at each session, each specific for a particular race distance. Please arrive knowing your goal race distance so that you can join the correct group. The three groups cater to track races of 800-1500m, 5km to 10km and 10 miles to marathon and triathlon. Follow the links for more details. Ideally, you should have built up a good base of stamina and endurance before you start to introduce speed work. If you are in doubt get in touch with the coaching team.

The training group meets at 7pm at the start/finish line. Make sure you have already jogged a few laps for a warm up. When you enter the track and start your warm up routine make sure you are familiar with the track etiquette. For example, start jogging clockwise in the outside lane and keep the inside lane free. This will ensure other athletes at the track can train without getting disturbed.

Due to the size of the training group we can not time every athlete accurately. Please make sure to bring your own stop watch. A stopwatch with a multiple lap timer would be ideal for our sessions. Use your regular running shoes; spikes are not required.

Weekly announcements about the Thursday night track sessions are sent out via the e-groups.
