Monday Track Sessions at Mile End

On Monday evenings during the summer we have coached track sessions at Mile End Stadium. Coaching is courtesy of UKA level 3 coach Karen Hancock (aka 'Slow-Coach' on RW) and UKA level 2 coach Malcolm Hinsley (aka 'sports malcolm').

Note: For most months of the year Mile End athletics track is not available for athletics on Monday due to it being used for football. Please contact Tower Hamlets if, like us, you think there are already plenty of football venues and that athletics tracks should be available for athletics. We do not have a suitable alternative track venue for use on Mondays so as an alternative Malcolm and Karen are holding lactate threshold sessions at the Dome every Tuesday.

The track sessions are mainly targeted for track/cross-country/road runners and triathletes, who take part in running events throughout the year. Ideally, you should have built up a good base of stamina and endurance before you start to introduce speed work. If you are in doubt get in touch with the coaching team.

Meet at 7pm at the start/finish line. Make sure you have already jogged a few laps for a warm up. When you enter the track and start your warm up routine, make sure you are familiar with the track etiquette. For example, start jogging clockwise in the outside lane and keep the inside lane free. This will ensure other athletes at the track can train without getting disturbed.

Please make sure to bring your own stop watch. A stopwatch with a multiple lap timer would be ideal for our sessions. Use your regular running shoes; spikes are not required.

Weekly announcements about these track sessions are sent out via the e-groups.
