The 2018 Serpentine WCR team

The Welsh Castles Relay takes place on the second weekend in June every year. The race starts in Caernarfon on Saturday morning and ends in Cardiff on Sunday afternoon with an awards presentation once the final team has finished.

What did those taking part think?

The WCR was my first relay event with the club and it was great fun – everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and the support along each leg was fantastic!“ Branwen

There are 20 stages ranging in distance from 8 to 14 miles passing many Welsh Castles in some challenging terrain. Each team has 20 runners who each run one stage over the course of the weekend, with ten stages on Saturday and ten on Sunday.

The Serpentine women's team won the ladies race in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013. 2014 and 2015. The men's (open) team won the race in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015.

More information on the race including descriptions of each stage can be found on the Les Croupiers race website. Some of us travel to Wales by minibus on Friday afternoon, staying overnight in B&B accommodation in Caernarfon or nearby (like Llandudno) and the remainder travel early on Saturday morning. We stay overnight on Saturday, again in B&B accommodation, near the half way point of the race (near Newtown/Llandrindod Wells).

We also need drivers, marshals and supporters – if you would like to help please email the Welsh Castles team.
