Southern Fell Racing Championships
17th & 18th September 2011
About the championship
The annual Isle of Wight Fell Running Championships, organised by Ryde Harriers, take place each September and incorporate the SEAA Fell Running Championships. In recent years increasing numbers of Serpies have travelled down for the weekend and we've been rather successful in bringing home a selection of trophies.

Serpies struggling up the first hill of St. Boniface Fell |
It's a two day, three stage event running up and down, and around, some of the Isle of Wight's finest hills and countryside. Ability level varies enormously, so everyone is welcome regardless of ability, but stage 3 is an extremely hilly half marathon so you must have prepared accordingly if you wish to enter this stage. The others are somewhat shorter distances but they are not necessarily any easier!
The race format is below. You can compete in just one, two or all three events but if you want to be eligible for the SEAA & overall prizes you must compete in and complete all three races and run in a serpie vest. Be prepared for a little peer pressure from your colleagues if team awards are on the line.
The races
-
Race 1 - St Boniface Fell (AS) 3 miles 775ft ascent @ 11.00am on the 17th
-
Race 2 - Ventnor Horseshoe (BM) 7 miles 1500 ft ascent @ 3.00pm on the 17th
-
Race 3 - Wroxall Round (CL) 13 miles 1500 ft ascent @ 10.30am on the 18th
The Serpentine trip
Accommodation is on a B&B basis and will cost approx £50-£55 per person per night. This figure is based on staying in a two bed room in the Burlington hotel so this may vary slightly if numbers require us to book other hotels or where you are in a room of more than 2 people.
All the travel and accommodation is organised for you, all you have to do is enter all / any of the events in advance. The closing date for SEAA entries is normally a week before the actual weekend (remember this!) but you can even just enter on the day. Again, don't worry about the FRA details - they know who we are!
Places are limited to 50 people and registration is handled via Entry Central where a payment of £60 needs to be made. This is made up of a £50 deposit for your accommodation (the balance of which to be paid on arrival) and a £10 contribution towards transport costs (the remainder of which is generously subsidised by Serpentine). Note that, unfortunately, this deposit is non-refundable as we have to book & pay for the accommodation in advance.
