Mountain Races
Some club members enjoy racing in the Alps or even further afield. Events attended may vary from year to year, but some events you might want to investigate further are:
France
- Trail des Cerces 68km, Serre Chevalier: +2700m / -2450m. serrechevalierskyrace.fr
- Chemin du Roy 28km, Serre Chevalier: +800m / -800m. serrechevalierskyrace.fr
- Ultra Trail Mont Blanc: western Europe's highest mountain, say no more! utmbmontblanc.com
Scotland
- West Highland Way race (95 miles). www.westhighlandwayrace.org
- Ben Nevis race 14km: +/-1360m, you can only enter if you have evidence of having completed 3 "A" races already. www.bennevisrace.co.uk
Spain
- Subida Veleta, 50km: +2840m / -50m, the highest road in Europe, and Spain's second-highest mountain. All on-road, but it does go all the way to the top of the mountain at 3470m. www.subidaveleta.com
Italy
- A multi-day race around Monte Rosa in the Italian Alps. www.ultratourmonterosa.com
Switzerland
- Swissalpine Marathon Davos: +1890m / -1710m, always popular with Serpies. www.swissalpine.ch
- Jungfrau Marathon: +1829m / -305m, most popular Swiss mountain marathon, usually sells out early. www.jungfrau-marathon.ch
- Zermatt-Marathon: +1944m / -444m. www.zermattmarathon.ch
- Inferno Schilthorn: probably the toughest half marathon with 2175m ascent, finish is at 2970m. www.inferno.ch
- Sierre-Zinal: 31km with about 2000m ascent and some descent. www.sierre-zinal.com
- Matterhorn Ultraks: 14,35 km going from 1605m to 2580m. matterhorn.ultraks.ch
- Aletsch Half: 1050m ascent going up to 2700m. www.aletsch-halbmarathon.ch
Liechtenstein
- LGT Alpin-Marathon: +1800m / -650m. http://www.lgt-alpin-marathon.li
United States
- Pikes Peak Marathon, Colorado Springs: +2382m / -2382m. It's very hard to break 5 hours total time although some have done it. Gruelling because of temperature extremes, protruding rocks, and the frequent loss of all toenails. www.pikespeakmarathon.org
