The High Peak Relay

13th November 2011

The High Peak Relay team in 2007

The High Peak Relay takes place in Derbyshire, usually on the second Sunday in November. It is shorter than the likes of Green Belt, both in terms of the overall distance (28 miles) and the individual stages, which range from 2.5 to 5.5 miles. As such it provides a comparatively gentle, beginner-friendly introduction to the club relay scene, and runners of all standards are welcomed.

The course is split into 8 stages and is predominantly along the High Peak Trail, a former railway line running through the beautiful White Peak District in Derbyshire. It is therefore mostly flat, despite passing through hilly terrain. The exceptions are stages 1 (uphill) and 8 (downhill) which will be assigned to suitably experienced runners.

In order to make a weekend of it, other activities will be organised for the Saturday. In past years these have included running the "Six Dales" trail event, hiring mountain bikes, swinging through the trees on the "Go Ape" course, or just going for a stroll and eating bakewell tart. Overnight accommodation for Friday and Saturday nights will be in a YHA or similar. Transport from London will be organised to match people up with lifts; we are always grateful to drivers who are willing to drive a hire car or minibus in order to make the logistics work out for this.

The race generally attracts 40 or more teams of 10, and typically we enter three Serpie teams. More information about the race can be found on the race organiser's website .
