BTF Level 3, 2007
Experience and Achievements
Having swum competitively for many years, and run her first Marathon on target under 4hrs (London 1982) Margaret completed her first triathlon in 1983 at the age of 33. From 1995 until 2005 she raced in the age group triathlon (and duathlon) world championships, generally finishing in the top 10 – 4th being her best placing. She claimed a gold medal in the Europeans and often made podium. In 2000 she celebrated her 50th birthday by completing her first full distance Ironman in 12hrs 50mins and in 2004 completed the Hawaii Ironman, the pinnacle of triathlon racing.
She has been coaching club members for a while and in 2007 a few of them decided to compete in Race Across America. After a few months logistical and cycling preparation June 2008 arrived - the relay team of 4 women, average age 60 and calling themselves The Serpentine Golden Girls, completed the West Coast to East Coast race in 8 days 5 hrs and 19mins.
The above sporting activities are molded around a full time job at King’s College, London, where she is Academic Director for the Higher Education Academy’s Health Sciences and Practice Subject Centre.
Interests and Activities
Coaching, triathlon; running, track & field, cross country (occasionally). Would like to be more social!
Involvement with Serpentine
Mainly triathlon coaching in one off sessions (evenings or weekend, half or full days) due to work commitments. Has been to Lanzarote for several years and has helped coach the bike and transition sessions. Swimmer by background, running technique sessions twice a month at St George's pool for the athletes she coaches individually. Sessions negotiable and happy to do one off / series e.g. in or near Battersea Park.
