Byelaws of the Serpentine Running Club

Club Headquarters

I. The Headquarters of the Club is at Seymour Leisure Centre, Seymour Place, London W1.

Club Colours

II. Registered colours are red with two yellow hoops.

Club Championships

III. In Club Championship races, Members must wear Serpentine colours and must have a bona fide entry in their own name and have declared the Club in races which are not exclusively confined to Members.

IV. Only first claim Serpentine SEAA Members shall be eligible for any Club running award. In addition, to be eligible for the Club awards in other disciplines, the Member must not be a first claim member (or equivalent) of the relevant umbrella organisation with another club. For example, to be eligible for the Club triathlon awards the Member must not be a "Senior Club" member of the BTA (British Triathlon Association) through another club.

Handicapping

V. Handicapping for all relevant Club events is the exclusive responsibility of the Club Handicapper appointed by the Committee from time to time.

Subscriptions

VI. Persons joining the Club shall pay a £30 joining fee in addition to the applicable annual subscription rate. The joining fee includes the cost of a Club vest or t-shirt which will be provided as the Committee shall decide. A Member whose membership ceased under the Rules (16 – 18) must also pay the joining fee upon rejoining and shall also get a Club vest or t-shirt.

VII. An annual subscription will be paid by all Members except as otherwise provided in the Rules. Families shall not be required to pay more than twice the individual's subscriptions for all members of the family in total. The subscription for Ordinary Members is £25 per annum. For seniors over 60, the unwaged and full time students, subscription shall be £10.

VIII. The subscription period will be for 1 year and renewal shall be due on the Member's anniversary date.

Elections of Ordinary Members

IX. Delegated to the Honorary Secretary. Refusals of membership shall be reviewed by the Committee.

Welfare of Members

X. The Club shall not tolerate the physical or mental abuse and harassment, nor discrimination or defamation of any of its Members during or subsequent to Club events. The Committee shall appoint a Welfare Officer who may be contacted by a Member to bring matters arising to the attention of the Honorary Officers. The Welfare Officer may also provide specific guidance regarding the Club's junior Members.

Proceedings of Committee Meetings

XI. The Honorary Secretary shall be responsible for producing and publishing minutes of Committee meetings. The Secretary may from time to time appoint a person to take minutes at meetings of the Committee. The minute taker will be a Member of the Club according to the Rules. The Committee must unanimously agree with the appointment and may withdraw approval at any time.

XII. A note of decisions made at a Committee meeting which affect the membership shall be agreed at that meeting and posted in the Club Headquarters and on the website as soon as possible thereafter.

XIII. Ordinary Members of the Committee, individually, will have responsibility for one or more of each of the following. (It is only coincidental that there are 9 Roles and 9 Ordinary Committee Members at this time.):
