David Chalfen is a runner of nearly 30 years experience with a PB of 2:32 for marathon and 10 sub-2:35s. He is currently completing UKA Level 4 (Performance) and also coaches with the England Athletics London Region Performance Squad, assisting the capital's best U17 and U20 distance runners. To complement his coaching commitments, he has managed numerous elite runners, both African professionals and GB internationals, at big city marathons such as Berlin, Istanbul and Seville, as well as other championship races in Spain. He currently works in Sports Development with a focus on Lee Vallley Athletics Centre and also developing Lee Valley Park as a running centre for NE London.

He says: "I started coaching because I am much more excited by contributing to other runners' improvement than dwelling on my own slowing down after my better running has become history. As a coach I stress variety to achieve a balance of volume and intensity without necessarily worrying about any ‘magic’ mileage figures"

David runs the track sessions at New River stadium in Wood Green and offers 1-1 coaching for committed runners. email
