Dr Ron Hyde 7M, 17 June 2018

There are few running figures who cut a jib like this one, glorious string vest marathon memories of old and all that. So to be lining up with no other than the one and only, Ron Hill (yup that signature on your club vest) greeting the start line in his home town of Hyde twas very special. This for the Dr Ron Hyde 7 (the fourth in a series of races held over four days - the Tour of Tameside Challenge).

My initial misconception that this might be flat and fast disappeared promptly, ha! Nearly 2 miles in and the grinding hill eventually gave way, this, an honest challenging course, well what would you expect from Mr 52 year long running streak himself! Given this start (which undulated on and on), I'd given up on my initial target of sub 49 minutes, however, I eventually crossed the line, delighted in 48:57 and a second place M50 to bag too. Nice one Ron! (Report: Lloyd Bevan)

Lakesman Triathlon, 17 June 2018

I am currently in need of sleep and a wash. Just wanted to let anyone following me know that I finished the Lakesman Triathlon in 14:06 (unofficial). I was aiming for 14 hours and managed to do better than I thought in both swim and bike on a hilly and windy course. So so so happy. Stomach issues on the run had to be managed errr carefully. It was amazing, I would do it again and loved seeing Mike and Tom finish too and share the experience. So happy and proud. I'm an ironman!!! (Report & photo: Coralie Frost)

Richmond 10k, 17 June 2018

Marta Bagnati finished third in the Ranelagh Harriers Richmond 10K in a new PB of 36:37. Congratulations Marta!

Sri Chinmoy 5k, 18 June 2018

Peter Holmes at the Sri Chinmoy 5k, 18 June 2018On a warm and breezy Monday night, ten Serpies descended on Battersea Park for the Sri Chinmoy “Speedy Steeds 5K”.

The Sri Chinmoy team have been promoting sporting events in the UK since the 1970’s, most notibly a 24 hour race at the track in Tooting Bec and a 100km race in Edinburgh. They have been familiar faces in Battersea Park since 2005 organising a series of 1 mile, 2 mile, 5k, 10k and 10 mile races every year.

The 5k race series consists of 7 races held in June, July and August. Monday night was the second of the race series, but with England’s opening World Cup match on against Tunisia, the field was well down on the previous week, attracting 135 runners compared to 248 the week before.

Consisting of 2 clockwise laps of the park, the race always delivers fast times and personal bests due to the competitive field and flat course. Last night was no exception, and the results show 22 personal bests and 30 season's bests out of 135 runners (41% of the field). These included our very own Richard Purdy finishing 5th in 16:33 (SB), Peter Holmes 17:07, Jonathan Moscrop 17:12 (SB), Graham O’Donoghue 17:38, Sam Barnes 18:01, Martin Carmack 18:10, Patrick Thielemans 19:40 (PB), Christian Morris 21:05, Nicola McGlennon 22:39 (SB) and Eda Korkmaz in 23:41, achieving a massive 28 second PB! (Report: Jonathan Moscrop; photo: race organiser)

Wanted: Instagram Fairies

Are you a keen Instagrammer/photographer and active Serpie? I'm looking for a couple of volunteers to help manage the club's Instagram feed. Since launching at the beginning of October, we've acquired almost 500 followers. I repost club members' photos as well using my own, but you're very welcome to put your own stamp on it. Do email me if you're interested or have any questions.

Get involved

Would you like to see your or a fellow club member's achievement featured in the next round-up? If so, it'd be great to hear from you. Drop me an email by end of Monday with a few words about the event (max. 150 words) and, if you have them, photos (please ask for permission if someone else took the pictures; we will not tag anyone).

If your result is missing from the club website, you can add it yourself or, if the race isn't listed in the dropdown menu, contact the Results Elves at results@serpentine.org.uk. Even better, add your name to the Race & Event Planner in advance and name SERPENTINE as your club when you enter races to ensure your results are added to your profile.

With thanks to everyone who contributed to this week's edition!
