Southern Athletics League report from first meeting

Over 30 Serpies, including several from our junior section, travelled to Braintree on Saturday for the first SAL meeting of the athletics season at Braintree. We came second behind London Heathside.

Leaving London with grey skies and rain we were pleasantly surprised to find Braintree warm and sunny which made for a fine day of athletics. Some of our juniors from the Paddington group joined the team for the first time and put in some excellent performances which really helped our score.

Most of the events were covered with A & B athletes as we had lots of our regular seniors as well a number of newer members joining the team for the first time. The other four clubs seemed to be sprint and field specialists on the whole, so competition in those events was tough, but in the middle-distance and endurance races we picked up lots of wins.

Thanks to Sally Hodge, Sammy Lee, Steph Vaatz and Nick Barberis-Negra for hellping as officials (along with me), and to Nick  Barberis-Negra and Lisa Pettit for captaining the teams and getting everyone to Braintree.

The next match is on 31st May in Hemel Hempstead. All welcome (U17 and over only)

Serpie results from Braintree.

Full results and league tables will appear on the SAL website over the next day or two.
