Our annual trip to the Isle of Wight to compete in the Southern Fell Racing Championships is being organised by Catharine Sowerby, Nicola McGlennon and Sarah Pemberton this year and you can now register (and pay your deposit) via the Serpentine website.

Every September in recent years a large number of Serpies have gone to the Isle of Wight to compete in the Southern Fell Racing Championships: a two day, three stage event running up and down, and around, some of the Isle of Wight's finest hills and countryside. Catharine Sowerby, Nicola McGlennon and Sarah Pemberton are organising this year's trip and you can now register (and pay your deposit) via the Serpentine website, see below.

The races

  • Race 1 - St Boniface Fell (AS) 3 miles 775ft ascent @ 11.00am on Saturday
  • Race 2 - Ventnor Horseshoe (BM) 7 miles 1500 ft ascent @ 3.00pm on Saturday
  • Race 3 - Wroxall Round (CL) 13 miles 1500 ft ascent @ 10.30am on Sunday

You can compete in just one, two or all three events but if you want to be eligible for the SEAA & overall prizes you must compete in (and complete) all three races and run in a serpie vest. Be prepared for a little peer pressure from your colleagues if team awards are on the line.

The Serpentine trip

Sign up here (You need to be logged in to the Serpie website to access this page)

We travel from Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour by train on Friday (~4pm, ~5pm and ~6pm trains), then catch the ferry to Ryde and taxis onward to Ventnor where we stay. Accommodation is on a B&B basis and will cost approx £32-£55 per person per night. This figure is based on two people sharing a twin bed room and will vary slightly based on which hotels we end up staying at or if you are in a room of more than 2 people. All the travel and accommodation is organised for you.

We will require a payment of £75 which is made up of a £65 deposit for your accommodation (the balance of which to be paid on arrival) and a £10 contribution towards transport costs (the remainder of which is generously subsidised by Serpentine). Note that, unfortunately, this deposit is non-refundable as we have to book & pay for the accommodation in advance.
