Club 1 mile championship decided

Helen Gray (5:12.0), Ryan McCrickerd (4:41.2) and Andrew Reeves (84.4%) are the 2016 female, male and age-graded mile champions after some great racing at Paddington on Tuesday evening.

Once again over 80 Serpies competed in a track championship at Paddington. It was great to see so many members racing, including a few of our juniors (the youngest being FU13!) Seven seeded races over 1 mile were held. In a repeat of the 3000m races last week, in the women's 'A' race Helen led from the start, while the men's 'A' race was a tactical one with a final lap sprint to decide the champion with Ryan crossing the line only just ahead of Ragab.

Race results

It was a cold evening so we've deferred presenting the trophies until later - probably after the final grand prix 5k race in Battersea. Thanks very much to all the Serpies who officiated last night, without whom the races couldn't have happened: timekeepers Ian Hodge, Andrew Maynard, Thom Martini and George Allan; track judges Nick Barberis, Sally Hodge, Philip Dee, Pete Mackintosh, Tolli Hickes, Mary Davies. Pam Hemstrom and Sarah McKenzie; and starter/marksman Malcolm French.

Grand prix results

After two races, Helen Gray, Ryan McCrickerd and Andrew Reeves lead the competition.

Future grand prix dates

The next race in the series is the 1k in Hyde Park on Saturday. Registration will start at 8:15am at the Lido Café (near the swimming lido) and will close at 8:55am to allow time for everyone to get into position (start and finish being 1k apart). The races will begin around 9.00-9:15am and are free to enter. Please try to remember to wear your Serpie top (required to score).

We need to find another 3-4 helpers for the 1k on Saturday. If you can help, please contact races@serpentine.org.uk
