London Marathon 2016 - Club Places

As in previous years, the club has been allocated a number of club places for the 2016 London Marathon. These are places that we give to club members in recognition of their services to the club (although please note that Serpentine do not pay the entry fee)

This year the number of club places for members of affiliated running clubs has been reduced, so we have 4 places, not 5, to allocate. We have been told that this is because there should apparently be more club runners taking part in the 2016 event than at anytime in the past 15 years, as the number of runners qualifying for a ‘Good For Age’ guaranteed place in 2016 has increased by more than 1000 on the 2015 figure, and the majority of Good for Age runners belong to clubs.

How can I get a club place?

The club has a set of qualifying criteria for deciding who gets a place. If you are interested in applying for one of these places then please look at the qualifying criteria on the website. This details how many points you score for various things such as racing for the club, marshaling and volunteering and other special tasks such as coaching, helping with the kit room etc.

For calculating the points please consider the period from Dec 1st 2014 to Nov 30th 2015. Please note that members who do not meet the full points criteria can still apply. If we don't receive 4+ applications from people who have the full number of points, we'll open out the ballot for the remaining places to other club members who have applied.

An application form can be found here. However, please note that I am more than happy to receive the same information within an email if people do not have scanners or are unable to hand the information to me in person.

The deadline for entries is 12 noon on Friday 4th December. I will then check the applications and points and announce the outcome a week later. If there is to be a ballot I will draw the names from a hat at the Christmas party, as in previous years.

Please do contact me if you have any questions.
