Serpentine win our first match of the SAL season

Our Southern Athletics League team achieved a surprise win at the first match of the season at Lea Valley.

Heading into the meeting feeling somewhat under-strength due to a clash with the ERRA road relays and the marathon season, our team was pleased to be neck and neck with hosts Enfield and Haringey AC at the half way stage. In the second half of the meeting, however, the competition melted away, particularly at the endurance events and by the end we had a huge lead over E&H and won the match easily.

The end of the meeting saw some unusual races: both men's and women's steeplechases were only contested by Serpies so we gained maximum points. In the 4x400m relays only one other club took part across both men and women so a joint race was held with our men's and women's team plus Biggleswade.

It was great to see some new faces joining the team and having a good day out, despite the cold weather.

The final result was:

Serpentine 334
Enfield & Haringey and HAWCS 275
Loughton AC 200
Biggleswade AC 127
Chiltern Harriers/Bedford "B" 84
Mornington Chasers 41

Full results will be posted on www.southernathletics.org.uk soon.
