Serpie cycling is changing

Changes to the way Serpie cycling is organized

Many thanks to everyone who has taken the time to email me their thoughts on Serpie cycling. Many of you have some great ideas. Off the back of these ideas myself and Rosh (Serpie cyling coordinator) have come up with a plan. Serpie cycling is changing.

Starting Saturday 3rd October this week, there will be one location for Serpies to meet and ride each week. From the start location there will be 2 options for riding a shorter ride and a longer ride both will start and finish in the same place. Initially we'll stick to starting in Richmond Park and heading out to the better known routes of Surrey Hills and Windsor but in time we'll vary the location to include Kent, Herfordshire, Essex and maybe even head out further to the Chilterns.

For the first few week the rides will be as follows:

Saturday 3rd October meet Richmond Park choice of one hill ride 60km or 3 hills 85km rides lead by Alex and Rosh. If anyone else is can help lead a ride please let either myself or Rosh know.

That all said exactly what rides take place each week is entirely dependent on volunteers stepping forward to lead the rides. If we don't have ride leaders there will be no rides simplies. Some of you have mentioned that coaches could volunteer to lead rides and I'm sure many of them will volunteer. However, please remember your coaches already volunteer a lot. So now's the time for others to come forward and step up to make this happen. Rosh and I cannot do this alone. If any of you would like to put yourself forward to lead one of the rides above, please let either myself know or Rosh (emails addresses at the bottom).

The proposed routes each week will be published in advance with weblinks to Mapmyride so the route can either be printed off and followed manually or the gpx files will be downloadable. These files can be uploaded to most Garmin's which then plot the route. You can then use the Garmin to direct you on the route. This means it's not necessary for the ride leader to know the route in advance though obviously that helps so long as they are comfortable using a Garmin to follow the route. Initially we'll stick to the well known Surrey, Windsor and Kent routes. Hopefully we'll get a good number of people the first few weeks so those that don't know the routes can learn them and then volunteer themselves to lead. As I said previously Rosh and I cannot do this alone and we need you to volunteer.

One final thing to help us better plan numbers, if you are intending to come and cycle. It would be great if you could sign up using the Serpie base event page. Link to the event page below:

So, looking forward to seeing a ton of Serpies cycling this Saturday. All welcome.

Alex and Rosh
