London League final standing 2014

Serpentine end the season on a high winning the Jekyll and Hyde Park Duathlon and finish 5th overall in the London League

The final race of the London League took place last Sunday 26th October at the Jekyll and Hyde Park Duathlon. With the race for top spot in the league tight between Crystal Palace and London Fields both clubs sent out the big guns to compete. London Fields took women's team honours on the day, Crystal Palace took the mob match and men's team while Serpentine took the mixed team and overall race victory. Well done team Serpentine.

For the season Serpentine finished 3rd in the mob match behind London Fields and Crystal Palace. We finished 5th in the men’s, women’s and mixed team competitions and that was also our overall finishing position for the season (down from 3rd last season).

Overall numbers competing in the league for Serpentine were similar to the previous year with 93 Serpies competing in the 8 races. However with London Fields and Crystal Palace putting out 120 + racers across the season it was always going to be difficult to finish higher than we did.

The age group results have also been released so congratulations to the following:

  • Margaret Sills 1st overall in age group
  • Harriet Hughes 2nd overall in age group
  • William McAvock 2nd overall in age group
  • Lan O'Connor 3rd overall in age group
  • Beate Vogt 3rd overall in age group

The full team and age group results will be posted on the Triathlon England website shortly. The prizes will be given out at the award evening which unfortunately takes place this Saturday and clashes with our own tri social.

The 2015 London League calendar is currently being put together and it would be great to see more Serpies, whatever your ability, competing in these smaller and friendlier local races all of which are organised by other local triathlon clubs. I'm also seeking a London League Captain for next season. Someone who can bang the drum for the league and alert Serpies when the events are about to open (as many sell out quickly). If you would be interested in this role, please drop me an email to saying why you want the role.

Thank you,
Alex Elferink
