As the club looks ahead to the cross-country season, we celebrated the end of the outdoor athletics season with the T&F annual social and award presentations on Saturday 16th September.

It was a fun afternoon with about 35 people taking part in a toast to a great season. including a good turnout of juniors and families.

In the Southern Athletics League (SAL), we finished 5th in division 3NE, missing (again - third year in a row) promotion by a handful of points. Team captains Lisa Pettit and Nicola Barberis Negra presented trophies to their athletes of the year: Bernadette Van Wijk for her versatility and overall contribution to the team, and Miles Kershaw for his participation to both the Rosenheim (top scorer) and the SAL in sprints, jumps and hurdles. Captain Richard Taylor said a few words about the Rosenheim League as well, where we came third (out of five clubs) in the League and qualified for the Finals. This was Lisa's last year as captain of the women's team: a massive thank you for her hard work over the past four years from all our team and good luck to Mary Davies, who has decided to take on this challenging job.

In the Southern Counties Vets League, the women's team came second (in spite of two wins over the season) and didn't make it to the final for the first time in 8 years. Team captain Jan Farmer presented her athlete of the season trophy to Catkin Shelley, the best overall contributor to the team. The men's team improved their results again this year, increasing their overall scoring and winning a match, which enabled them to finish in second place at the end of the season. Team captain Andrew Maynard awarded the end of season trophy to Andrew Roberts for his consistent performances in all middle distance events.

This year's awards are now on the website at this link and the previous years' ones can be found here.

A reminder to everybody that the T&F club championships (100m, 400m and 800m) are still on and any results until 30th September count. With a handful of remaining open meetings, do you have what it takes to get the final prize? All details can be found at this link.
