First Sunday League cross country race - Sunday 18 October

The opening Sunday League race will take place on Sunday, 18 October in Cheshunt Park, Park Lane, Cheshunt, Herts, EN7 6QD, starting at 10.30am, hosted by Broxbourne Runners

About the Sunday League

The Sunday League offers the chance for some good old-fashioned cross country running in the countryside. The League is friendly whilst still competitive and a great way to spend a Sunday morning. In Sunday League races, men and women run together over the same distance. The races attract a wide age and ability range and are ideal as a first experience of cross country running for those who are new to it. Plus many of the races are in attractive locations offering the possibility of a country pub lunch afterwards - what more could anyone want?

All entries are taken on the day. However, if you intend to run, it would be helpful if you could add your name to the Serpie planner so we have an idea of how many people are planning to be there. Also, please wear a Serpie top.

The race

The Cheshunt course will be a little less than 5 miles (three laps). The race will start at 10.30am. The course is over a grassland circuit that is gently undulating.

There are no changing facilities or showers. You are advised to arrive already changed.

Kit can be left in the finish area (please note that this will not be supervised).

Toilets and refreshments are available in the Golf Centre nearby. This adjoins the car park and is close to the start/finish. Only food and drink purchased on site can be consumed on the premises and you are requested to take off your muddy shoes before entering.

Travel

By car: Cheshunt is just north of the M25 (Junction 25). Take the A10. Turn off (left, if you're driving from London) at Church Lane traffic lights. At the first roundabout, turn right into Flamstead End Road. After mini-roundabout at bottom of Longfield Lane, turn right into Park Lane. The entrance to Cheshunt Park is about 100m on the right. Parking - follow the lane to Cheshunt Golf Club and use the (fairly small) car park on the left at the end. There are often golf and private functions taking place at the same time meaning that parking space is very limited, so please car share as much as possible.

By train: trains run from Liverpool Street to Cheshunt, leaving at 8:25, 8:43 and 8.55. You can also travel via Seven Sisters but not via Tottenham Hale, due to rail maintenance work. Journey time is about 30 minutes. Cheshunt Park is about 2 miles walk from the station. From the station, walk west along Windmill Lane. At the T-junction, turn right into Turner's Hill. Bear left into High Street and after a short distance, turn left into Church Lane. Cross the A10, Great Cambridge Road. Then follow the car instructions, above.
