Life Membership and David Simpson Memorial Trophy presentations
We had a fabulous evening on Saturday at the Christmas Party, thanks to Josie and her helpers for making the night a great success. As part of the awards we presented the 25th Life Membership of the club to Charles Lescott.
Charles has been a member of Serpentine since 2002 and has served on the committee in several roles, including Honorary Secretary and most recently as Honorary Chairman until August 2014. Sid Wills presented the award to Charles in recognition and appreciation of his service to Serpentine Running Club and in particular for displaying diligence, tact, great insight, diplomacy and humour over many years.
Whilst Charles' time is now focussed on family and politics we hope he will make a return to the club committee in the future.
At the Christmas party, we also presented the David Simpson Memorial Trophy for 2014 to Lars Olsen. Lars has such an infectious and enthusiastic love of hills and has passed this onto many athletes in the club. He especially enjoys Hampstead Heath where he's led the Saturday morning hills sessions for over five years. Whatever the weather you can guarantee Lars will be there – one of the great appeals for anyone thinking of turning up – and there's always the breakfast afterwards to recover. Lars also leads long runs on a Wednesday evening throughout the summer and also participates in many trail races – from Davos to the North Downs.
Congratulations Lars, thank you for continuing to instil a love of hill running in our club!
