Athletics update

The Serpie team came 2nd in this weekend's Southern Athletics League meeting at Sutton Arena. We've a new 10,000m club record as well.

Team captains Nick and Lisa pulled together a good team for the 4th round of the Southern Athletics League where we were up against Sutton AC, Vale of Aylesbury AC and Wycombe Phoenix AC. Wycombe proved stronger in more events than us and we came a solid 2nd with some excellent performances:

  • A & B string wins in the both women's 2000m and men's 3000m steeplechase races
  • A & B string wins in the both women's and men's 1500m races
  • A string wins and B strings 2nd places in both men's and women's 800m races
  • A & B string wins in the men's 3000m race
  • A string wins and B strings 2nd places in the women's 3000m race
  • A & B string wins in the women's hammer competition

Full results are in our database.

Nick Torry's and Richard Phillips' times in the 3000m race are the 2nd and 3rd fastest ever recorded by Serpies. Given that they lapped the rest of the competitors and weren't really pushing 100% their times could have been even faster!

Meanwhile, in the Biggleswade Track Fest last week, Richard Phillips set a new club record for 10,000m with a time of 31:30.90 The previous record was set in 1992; I wonder how long this one will last? Well done Richard!
