Description
Very flat course using the towpath to Richmond and back, but please be aware that there is uneven footing (sometimes puddles), on parts of the course. You may wish to train on similar terrain in preparation for the race.
The first group to leave will be for those who wish to race the course, but due to Council restrictions the first mile must be run behind an official pacer running at 6.5mins per mile. Anyone in this group will not receive ‘pacing’ & will be ‘on their own’ after the first mile.
After this, separate pace groups will depart at 2 minute intervals running at 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9 and 10 minute miling. At the time of online registering you will be asked to select which group you want to start in. It is important you then start with this group or your finish time will be affected. Five to ten minutes before the start you will be asked to stand with the leader of your chosen pace group.
The first mile of the race goes over Putney Bridge, you do not have to cross any roads. You then run down the towpath on the South side of the Thames. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT FOR THE FIRST SECTION until you are past the rowing clubhouses, that you stay behind the leader (even in the race group). This is just for the first mile. After that you may choose to run at your own pace or with the group leader. The run director and helpers at the start will be on hand to assist you if needed.
Course Details:
From Bishop's Park runners will cross Putney bridge and follow a straight 10 mile out and back route to Richmond. The course will be measured and mile markers will be at the 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 & 18 miles points. In the event of unexpected last minute towpath maintenance work, there may be short diversions to the route which we will mark out well and adjust the course length accordingly.
